The New Face of Birthdays

12 Aug 2021

What’s the Meaning of Life? Dogs.

Honestly the answer to any of life’s big questions. What is happiness? Dogs. Why am I sad? No dogs near. What are they talking about in all the great love songs? Dogs.

If you can’t tell, we love dogs here at Moonpig. So much that we sell over 1,200 cards with dogs on them, because you lot love dogs too! You love them most for birthdays (our most popular canine cards to send) but dogs themselves love Mother’s Day the most (the highest number of cards from the dog). Dogs are the best children. It’s a scientific fact.

ANYWAY, to celebrate International Dog Day on August 26th, we’re launching our cutest and fluffiest competition yet...Moonpig’s New Face of Birthdays! All you need to do is submit photos of your perfect pooches for a prize and a chance to have them on a card forever!

So, the little scamp that makes you smile every day can make everyone else smile too. Brb we just have something in our eye. We’re definitely not crying about how much joy dogs bring to our lives. No, it’s definitely an eyelash or something.

If being cute and the goodest of all good boys wasn't enough, dogs can also play a role in having a positive impact on your mental health, we caught up with mental healthy charity Mind, to shed some more light on this...

“Lots of people find that being around animals is calming and enjoyable. Whether you have a pet of your own or spend time with someone else’s, connecting with animals can have a positive impact on your wellbeing. It can improve your mood, reduce feelings of stress and help you feel more relaxed. If you’re looking for ways to connect with a furry friend, you could try pet-sitting or dog walking.”

Introducing Our Doggy Judges

Natalie Gethin

Head of Social, Moonpig

“I didn't grow up with dogs and always described myself as a "cat person" but, when my parents got their dog, I quickly became the type of person who stopped to stroke every single dog I came across. I'm now "Mama" to a very pampered pooch, Hendricks, so I've got first-hand experience of how having a dog can change your life for the better.”

One of my favourite things about working at Moonpig is seeing the hilarious photos our customers share with us of their pets enjoying Moonpig's boxes. I'll be keeping my eyes peeled for pups with character that shines through in their photos. Whether they're camera-shy or a real poser, I want to see something that'll put a smile on all of our faces.

Becky Mayhew

Corporate Partnerships team at Mind, the mental health charity

“I’m Becky and I work in the Corporate Partnerships team at Mind. I love dogs because they really are our best friends – whether you’re having a good day or a bad day, your dog will always have your back.

For the competition, above all I’ll be looking for a dog with some personality – maybe a costume or a photo of the pup in action. Fluffiness and generally looking adorable will also go a long way.

Kate Murnane

Influencer, Kate Bow Bow

"Hi! I’m Kate, and I’m a content creator. I’ve always been a huge dog lover and have two pooches of my own who have been part of the family for 8 years. One of the reasons I love dogs is because they have the kindest souls and love unconditionally, which is pretty special. As a judge, I’ll be looking for some star quality! The winning pup needs to have a fun character and lovable nature. Whether they are cute, crazy or full of charisma, they need to be able to put a smile on someone’s face when they receive their card!"
