Meet The Artists: Hello from Jess

Tell us a bit about yourself….

I grew up in London & Oxford, and went to uni at Nottingham Trent to study Photography. After uni I spent a lot of time working in art galleries, and documenting artists through video and photography. Then I moved onto working as a video editor for various creative agencies before quitting my 9 to 5 and focusing on Rumble! Never looked back!

How did you get into the creative/greeting card industry?

It kind of happened by accident, I came up with what I thought was a funny pun one day (Ha-Poo Birthday, featuring the emoji poop). I did a mockup on my laptop and uploaded it to Etsy without even having any products printed. The design then started to sell really quickly, which is when I saw there was a lack of what I was doing online. My shop then started to expand pretty quickly with lots of new designs, mainly with a celebrity focus.

What have been your biggest challenges to get to where you are today?

I think my biggest challenge was quitting my full time job to focus on my own business. It took a lot of hard work, and working extra hours but I have no regrets!

What has been the proudest moment of your career?

Getting an order through my website from Khloe Kardashian. Then seeing Kim Kardashian post about my wrapping paper on her Instagram stories. I’m not sure I can ever top that! Also seeing my cards in high street shops never gets old, I feel proud of what I have achieved whenever I see them on the shelves :)

We love the name Rumble Cards! Where did the inspiration come from, is there a meaning behind it?

A rumble is another word for a greeting. So I thought it fit quite nicely!

Do you have anyone or thing in mind when designing your cards?

My designs are heavily influenced by media trends, and celebrity culture.

So I tend to focus on that kind of audience. Mainly someone who spends a lot of time on social media and watching Netflix (basically me!) I try to keep my audience engaged with new trends, and I aim to design celebrity cards that appeal to all ages.

What is the best card you’ve ever been given?

Handmade cards are always the best!

Which is your favourite card you ever designed and why?

It would have to be the first one I ever designed, “Ha-Poo Birthday.” Without that design, or that thought popping into my head that day, I probably wouldn’t have even started my business!

We love your topical cards! Of all your celeb cards which is most popular?

I think it’s got to be Queenie for my UK audience, and Snoop for my international customers!

What do you love most about your job/brand?

The freedom it gives me, not only to time wise but being able to design whatever I want and put them out there almost instantly. I also love it when a customer sends me photos of their products, that always brightens my day!
