A birthday really only starts with birthday mail. With a beautiful card with your sweet words or a photo of you together, for example. But what do you write on a birthday card? We can help you. With example texts and tips.

• Hooray, congratulations on your 32nd birthday! A big birthday kiss through the letterbox. I hope you have a nice birthday.

• Happy birthday hooray, hooray! Congratulations [Name], make it an unforgettable (birth)day!

• A big birthday hug for my crazy, sweet, fun and funny, friend/cousin/sister/brother/father/mother.

• Today is your birthday. A day just for you. So enjoy every minute of it.

• Hi grandpa/grandma, congratulations on your birthday! Unfortunately no coffee and a cookie this year, but via this card a hug and a little visit.

• Hooray, the big 3-0 is here. Finally grown up ;-) Have a nice day.

• A year older, wiser, prettier and happier. Happy Birthday!

• Oops, too late. Still, happy birthday. We'll toast to you soon.

• Today is your day, a very special day. The day you decide everything, it's your birthday!

What to write in a birthday card? Some tips

• Follow your feelings and let us hear from you. When it's your birthday, it's always nice to receive congratulations. And not quickly and easily via WhatsApp or Facebook, but with a personal message by post. Small gesture, big effect.

• Think of special moments that the birthday person has experienced in the past year. For example, does that person have a new home, job or love? Then you can mention that in the text. Look back and wish that person a beautiful, new year.

• Mention the birthday person's good qualities. For example, someone can be good at offering a listening ear or a loyal friend with whom you can laugh a lot with. Let them know that you are grateful for that and that you want to celebrate many more birthdays together.

• Are you really stuck? Choose a birthday card with a message on the front and write 'Big kiss' with your first name on the inside. That's fine too. It doesn't matter how you let the birthday person know you're thinking of them, as long as you do it (see tip 1).

Oops, forgot your birthday? No worries, it happens to the best of us. In all cases, better late than never. So send a special card anyway, because receiving a card is always nice. Even if it is a little later. Found the right text? Find the perfect card here!
